Performance Impacts of Node Failures on a Chord-Based Hierarchical Peer-to-Peer Network

چکیده
Peer-to-Peer networks are designed to provide decentralized, fault-tolerant alternatives to traditional client-server architectures. In previous work, the the resilience of structured P2P networks has been evaluated analytically as well as by simulation. In this paper, we discuss the in uence of peer failures on a core component of our cost-optimized hierarchical P2P protocol Chordella. We show that the used algorithms lead to a working system even if a high number of superpeers is subject to failures.

TAC: A Topology-Aware Chord-based Peer-to-Peer Network
Among structured Peer-to-Peer systems, Chord has a general popularity due to its salient features like simplicity, high scalability, small path length with respect to network size, and flexibility on node join and departure. However, Chord doesn’t take into account the topology of underlying physical network when a new node is being added to the system, thus resulting in high routing late...
متن کاملChord-PKI: A distributed trust infrastructure based on P2P networks
Many P2P applications require security services such as privacy, anonymity, authentication, and non-repudiation. Such services could be provided through a hierarchical Public Key Infrastructure. However, P2P networks are usually Internet-scale distributed systems comprised of nodes with undetermined trust level, thus making hierarchical solutions unrealistic. In this paper, we propose Chord-PKI...

متن کاملInvestigation of Chord Protocol in Peer to Peer-Wireless Mesh Network with Mobility
File sharing in networks is generally achieved using Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications. Structured P2P approaches are widely used in adhoc networks due to its distributed and scalability features. Efficient mechanisms are required to handle the huge amount of data distributed to all peers. The intrinsic characteristics of P2P system makes for easier content distribution when compared to client-se...
متن کاملDiscovering Network Neighborhoods Using Peer-to-Peer Lookups
We present a distributed rendezvous mechanism to solve the network neighborhood discovery problem in large-scale distributed systems. Our scheme uses the existing distributed peer-to-peer lookup mechanisms such as Chord to provide network neighborhood discovery. Our idea is for each host to compute a location key that characterizes its network location on the Internet. A node then uses this loc...
